Kurz vor den Olympischen Spielen in China 2008 wurden die auf reziproken Abkommen basierenden neuen Botschaftskomplexe der USA und der Volksrepublik China in Beijing und Washington D.C. eröffnet. Ausgehend von der durch beide Staaten in öffentlichen Statements erklärten Wichtigkeit der Botschaftsprojekte werden diese in der vorliegenden Publikation zum einen als Instrumente zur Selbstinszenierung in der jeweils anderen Hauptstadt und zum anderen auch als Mittel zum Ausdruck der politischen Absichten in dem die Weltordnung des 21. Jahrhunderts politisch, militärisch als auch ökonomisch prägenden Verhältnis untersucht.
Shortly before the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in China, the USA and the People’s Republic of China both opened their new embassy complexes based on reciprocal agreements in Beijing and Washington D.C. Starting from the publicly uttered statements on the importance of the embassy buildings by both states, the study analyzes the two embassy projects as instruments of a self-staging in the respective capital as well as means of expressing political ambitions in the politically, militarily as well as economically most important bilateral relationship of the 21st century.
